The Wheel Commissions this year included 3 Distinct Projects by Sara Witalis:
1) Wild Demeter Gardens Grasses Installation: Sara selected indigenous grasses and installed them on our patio’s planters, to create a beautiful environment for the end of the patio season, and to prepare for Spring, and welcoming the guests with green shoots!
2) Sara created wild-crafted bottles, and hand-wrote the names both common and latin on each, including factual information about the local wild-edible plants inside. She also created a large wall-mounted wreath for the patio, with grape leaves, and other wild edibles she foraged.
3) Life in the Time of Dying: A Visual Art Project launched on social media, featuring a commission that Sara passed on to Ally Fleming, a poet whose work is featured alongside Sara’s photographs. Sara asked Ally to create a poetic response to these works, commissioned by the Wheel, (a Pagan Arts & Culture Event Series.)
Ally sourced text in Homer’s writing: Anything included above the line in the image are words which were spoken by Demeter, and anything below the line, the voice belongs to Persephone.
